Stephen DeCherney, MD, MPH has significant experience as a research physician and clinical operations manager. As a research physician, named to the Best Doctors in America, who is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology/Diabetes/Metabolism, DeCherney's research background includes four and a half years at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), followed by 11 years in various management roles in the Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware. While there, he was the principal investigator for more than 100 clinical trials. He has also held roles at Quintiles Transnational, William Harvey Research Institute, London Genetics Company, and PRA International. 

Today, he is on the Board of Pharm-Olam as well as Vast Therapeutics, Health Decisions, and KNOW Bio, LLC, where he also acts as Chief Medical Officer. He is a Trustee of the Christiana Care Health System in Delaware as well. Previously, Dr. DeCherney was a Trustee of the William Harvey Research Institute, of the Queen Mary Medical College, St Bart’s and the London Hospitals. He was also a Senior Advisor to the London Genetics Company, London, UK, and served as Chair of the University of Delaware Research Foundation.

Dr. DeCherney is currently Professor of Medicine, and formerly Professor (Adjunct) of Business in the Kenan-Flagler School of Business, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. Before turning to academia, DeCherney was President, Global CRO Division, Quintiles Transnational Inc. Dr. DeCherney’s divisions included approximately 10,000 staff spread among 50 countries. His P&L responsibility in these divisions amounted to approximately $1.25 BN in revenues annually. From 2008-2016, Dr. DeCherney was a Trustee of the William Harvey Research Institute, of the Queen Mary Medical College, St Bart’s and the London Hospitals. He was a Senior Advisor to the London Genetics Company, London, UK. He also served as Chair of the University of Delaware Research Foundation. During the same period, he also served as an Associate Professor at both the University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson University. He left Christiana Care Health System to become Executive Vice President of Global Clinical Operations at PRA International (2000-04). 

Dr. DeCherney is a graduate of Columbia College, Columbia University in New York City where he received a BA in Biology. He was awarded the Columbia College Alumni Achievement Award granted to the “Senior Adjudged Most Outstanding in Qualities of Mind, Character, and Service to the College”. He received his medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and completed his internal medicine residency at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. DeCherney received his endocrinology training at Vanderbilt University. He also earned an MPH, Healthcare Management, from Columbia University School of Public Health.
